Default 2007 XC90 3.2L CEL P0012 code help

2007 XC90 3.2L with a Check Engine Light P0012 code Intake Camshaft Timing for bank 1 is retarded. The oil and filter was changed though the code still pops up shortly after driving. Each of the VVT solenoids and the VVT OCV were cleaned. An attempt was made to test the solenoid by applying 12V though it wasn't clear if they were working or not. Shaking them they did click, and the solenoid arm or "mini piston" seemed to be movable though not by much. The code still pops up. Have a basic OBD2 reader though would need instructions on what to look for next. Unsure if timing can be checked on VVT. Without disassembly can only see part of the belts, and they look to be in good condition. The VVT solenoids are about $200+ each from Volvo.

It is discouraging that there isn't a Haynes Repair manual for the 2007 XC90 at least that is in English. Anyway, the car has had issues since being recently purchased where in mountain driving has had a lot of errors crop up,

As noted in some other posts on similar issues related to the VVT, there are various part names for the same part. Especially if looking at aftermarket parts. Some Volvo dealer parts sites are hard to navigate to find a part or what Volvo calls the part meaning its official Volvo name. The above pictured part, which is in two places on the car, the passenger side and the driver side of the cylinder head below the beauty cover, have a couple of different names. Note that in the aftermarket it is sometimes called the "exhaust" VVT solenoid. Since there is a lack of repair manuals for this Volvo XC90 in English, I am trying to find out if both of them are for exhaust and if they would cause a P0012 code or not. Or is there a different part that I should be looking at possibly replacing? While I understand that throwing parts at the problem isn't ideal, the lack of information on the XC90 and how to solve this P0012 DTC is making it quite frustrating.

Hello, I have the same problem with my 2011 Volvo XC90. I would really appreciate it if you could share how you solved this issue.
