Default Getting P0011 Code Help please

I just purchased a couple of weeks ago at an auction a 2nd hand 2006 Volvo S40, with 240i engine. I'm getting a P0011 engine code. Camshaft Position Sensor
Intake Camshaft Position Timing_Over_Advanced (Bank1)

When I clear the code it comes back with in a couple of miles and on the 2nd key start. The engine seems to run OK.

I intend to fix the problem my self.

I could use some help troubleshooting this issue.

Thanks
Phillip

After extensive reading I decided to check the VVT Solenoid. After Removing the solenoid it did appear to be stuck in. I removed the clip washer and spring cleaned it out and re installed. Down the road to the corner. Turned the engine off and back on.. bang. Theres the CEL again. Code P0011. So I check to see if applying 12V to the leads will actuate the solenoid. It does not. So I figure the VVT Solenoid is bad. Off to Dallas to Volvo they have one for $135 and they want my old one. Back in three hours with the new VVT Solenoid and install it. I drive to the corner turn the Key off then start the engine again... Bang CEL Code P0011. I also tried removing the negative battery terminal for a few minutes and re installing it with the key in Position II. No Joy.
Any help would really be appreciated. Where do I go from here? Thanks

Just a guess but could be the sensor itself. I hate part swapping on guesses though. Gets expensive fast.

Probably the CVVT hub, assuming the oil is full and clean.

I have checked the wiring to the VVT Solenoid and getting 13volts there to the new VVT Solenoid.

Additionally I have found the timing marks on the top pulleys and the both line up perfectly with the notches in the timing belt cover. So I know the timing is still correct.

So am I correct in thinking that the camshaft position sensor it's self is the next thing to replace?

Default P0011 CEL code

To recap:
I'm getting a P0011 engine code. Camshaft Position Sensor
Intake Camshaft Position Timing_Over_Advanced (Bank1)
The engine seems to run fine.
When I clear the code it comes back within a mile and on the 2nd key start. The engine seems to run OK.
1. I checked the oil and the oil is full and clean with only 1000 miles on the oil.
2. I do not think the timing belt slipped because I found the timing marks on the top pulleys and they both line up perfectly with the notches in the timing belt cover.
3. I replaced the VVT Solenoid with a new Volvo VVT Solenoid
4. I checked the wiring to the VVT Solenoid and getting 13volts there to the new VVT Solenoid.
What to check from here?
Thank you
Phillip

The sensor or the cvvt hub itself. Although the timing marks will be perfect, if the cvvt hub has failed internally you could get the failure message due to the cam turning to it's maximum travel and the sensor is correctly reporting this. Maybe try a junkyard sensor first?

As Hudini said, the marks can still line up but the CVVT hub can be failing and causing that code. You can throw a sensor at it, but I'd bet it won't fix it.

Default Replaced Sensor No Joy

I replaced the Camshaft position sensor and it still did not fix the problem.

When I clear the code the P0011 immediately returns.. like at the next key turn, it shows up on the code reader as pending. Then at the second Key start, the CEL is thrown.
