Good day All, I'm looking to replace the standard head unit in my xc90 2007 D5, any help in what I need to purchase to install a single cd/dab/Bluetooth radio would be fantastic, Thankyou in advance.
You'd be best consulting with a car audio shop. Your head unit most likely uses fiber optic based connections which makes for a more complicated replacement. Plus they have non-standard bezel sizes. To get started you can google "volvo fiber optic adaptor" and that will lead you to some products and installation approaches.
Aftermarket head units in an xc90 are not as simple as you would hope. Have seen a few and most of them sounded pretty good.
The xc90 sound system uses a fiber optic bus. If you plan to use any existing components - like the amplifier - that bus must stay plugged in. In aftermarket systems I've seen installed in xc90's the ICM (infotainment control module) - that's the control panel on the dash - is placed under the passenger seat so it can still be connected on the fiber optic bus and low speed canbus. The speakers are powered by the AUD - audio module that's on the fiber optic bus also. The ICM is also on the lowspeed can bus. Those bus wires must stay plugged in or the climate module, SRS (airbag) module and the DIM (instrument cluster) won't work. Below is a diagram of that fiber optic bus - listing all components that could be installed. You may or may not have the phm, phone module, sub for a subwoofer, rdar, gps, mmm modules in your car. Also shown is the wiring diagram and low speed can bus. .
