2014 XC90 won’t go into park
Hi all, hoping you can help before I go the shop. First the shifter started to feel loose on D, and I found it slightly dropping to M. Then one fine day it didn’t go into P and all shifting became very clunky. I disassembled the gear **** and found the black and yellow “claw” was broken (yellow plastic part”. I replaced it, so the shifting is again crisp. It still will not go into park.
With the shifter all the way to the top of the slot, the car is still in reverse. The key will release, but the gear selector still reads R. I know it’s not really in Park because battery is draining. When shifting to the back of the slot to D, it seems to not go all the way back. Shifting into Manual, the shifter is flush to the top of the slot, instead of in the middle where it should be. The whole shifter seems to offset by a few cm to the front, so it is not pushing the shifter cable all the way to park.
is there an adjustment to the shifter cable, or another part or spring that may be worn or broken that I could replace?
thanks in advance!

Update: I took the car to a specialist shop. The shifter cable (from gearshift **** to gearbox) was loose at the gearbox side in the engine bay. They removed the airbox to get to it, job done. No spare parts needed.
I didn’t get to see exactly what part was loose, and I also don’t know if the loose cable led to the broken “claw” or Vice versa, but I hope this will help someone else in the future.
