Default 2016 XC90 Fuel injector

My 2016 XC90 T6 with 41k miles has a bad fuel injector. Dealer wants me to replace all 4. I told them to replace the bad one. Have never missed a service and am just out of my extended warranty of course. Any one else have this issue? Should I have them replace all 4?

never had an injector fail but my sense is you should be able to just replace the one. Do you know what the fault codes were? The injectors are solenoid controlled valves so a "bad" injector could mean there's a clog or mechanical failure that is keeping the fuel from spraying correctly or there's an electrical failure like a short or open circuit in the solenoid. If there is debris in the injector, I'd be concerned how it got there (ie past the filter?) If its a mechanical or electrical failure within the device, I'd be pressed to understand why the other injectors may be subject to failure in the near term. At $200/ injector ($130 if you buy online at Tasca Parts), Personally (with no direct experience replacing an injector on a 2016 model) I'd save the $600 and just have one done - even if the labor to access the injectors may be in the 2-3 hour range (ie $500 or so). Did you get an estimate?

The new 4 cylinder engines use direct injection - where the injector sprays directly into the combustion chamber versus onto the back of the intake valve. A mechanical pump steps up the fuel pressure to allow the injector to spray in a compressed cylinder.
Direct Injectors are more expensive and live a much harder life.

yep, my VW has DI with 100K miles and no issues with fuel delivery and I run 91+ octane to stave off carbon build up (but I know eventually I'll need that cleaning service). The OP noted the car has only 40K miles and was questioning whether one failed injector would warrant replacing all four which I think you'd agree is pretty low mileage to assume all injectors are at risk. Curious what the book time is for replacing the injectors.
