Default 3.2L Oil Filter Change Question

Picked up a used 07 XC90 and wanted to change the oil. I bought the adapter for the oil filter housing but it is really on tight and it felt like if I forced it I would break the housing. The cap seem to have 23.5 NM written on it so it shouldn't be too tight. Is this fairly common? I was using my small breaker bar but was thinking that if I used a couple of extensions I could bring it up higher and use the 18 inch breaker bar. However I am leery that this might snap the hex portion right off the housing. This isn't like the filters on my previous 2.4 or the 2.9. Any recommendations? TIA

I assume the socket you have fits the ~ 36 mm hex boss in the middle. There are faces around the edge to allow a special large oil filter cap to engage. Check with the dealer on what they have, or check online.

I originally got a cheap stamped metal cap for the oil filter housing of my 2004 V70 2.4L and it did not work. Exchanged it for the cast/machined aluminum cap which securely grabbed the filter housing and it came loose easily.

Twist it off there, The seal we use on those filter housing's is some what large and takes a bit to get them on there. It will pop loose. Its some hard plastic,I have dropped a few out of my hands, takes a lot to break them.

Assuming that you have not already drained the oil, you could retry loosening the cap with the same ~36 mm socket, but with the engine running. The pressurized oil in the filter housing may help break loose the seal. Of course, as soon as the cap becomes loose stop the engine and then continue to unscrew the cap.
