Advice on buying an XC-90
I have never owned a volvo, but am interested in a gasoline xc60 or xc90, more so the xc90. Searching around online, you read stories of owner issues with xc90's (2020+ model year) and youtube videos of owners talking about warped rotors and brakes, noise issues, and some other reliability issues. It's hard to determine what are one-off's and what might be expected. Anyone with any advice on buying an XC90's and what normal issues one may expect with them?
I've been looking at volvo EV's, which are interesting. But the XC90 search is what sparked my interest in exploring Volvo SUVs.

I just purchased a 2023 CPO Volvo XC90 B5 Core and love it! My wife had two Volvos before, an S40 and then a 2014 S60, so I'm familiar with their vehicles. Sure her S60 was on the P3 platform and the XC90 you're looking at is on the SPA platform, but we had no real issues with her former Volvos. I look at it this way, when it comes to brakes, it comes down more to how the driver performs. I used to have a 2019 Tiguan and then a 2019 Atlas before this and I know that for VWs, as an example, the rears go before the fronts since VW is rear bias in braking. Yet, you'd find people that will jump online and complain they need new fronts at 30K. It really should be rears around that time or a little past and then almost double that for fronts. This tells me that the person is the type that slams the brakes, brakes hard at last minute. So personally I take brake related posts with a grain of salt. Now when I look at the brakes on my 2023 compared to online reviews, I will say they do look bigger than the first few years of production. I might be wrong as I haven't looked up brake diameters between the 2016/2017 to now, but from what I've seen the reported issues with brakes seems to have diminished as years have gone by. My take is, if you enjoy the car, go for it and consider a low mileage CPO. Volvos CPO warranty is hard to beat at 5 years/Unlimited mileage and they even cover electrical during that time period. It is pro-rated based upon first service date. I have coverage until 1/2028 with mine, so feel good about coverage and you can find them at better pricing than new off the lot. I hope that helps, but I'm very happy with mine.
