Aftermarket control arm

Default Aftermarket control arm

Searched but only found posts that were 10 years old. Have there been any NEW aftermarket control arms produced that are decent for my xc90? Or do I have to just buy OE from Volvo? Thanks for helping...

I would strongly suggest Volvo.

I had a customer bring be his own aftermarket arms. I tried to persuade him they might not be a good idea but he insisted. He paid me to install them and the car darted right when braking. So he paid again to have them replaced.

I've also had multiple customers decline control arms and go somewhere else because they are cheaper. Then they come back either right away to complain that their car still handles poorly even though they replaced the arms like I recommended or I see them for their next oil change with new arms and torn bushings already.

I just ordered a front end suspension kit (Moog) from Rockauto.com. Received them but have yet to have them installed. Hopefully all goes well, lets see....

I installed after market OEM quality control arms and have not had a problem, if you have so called darting when putting on brakes, it is the subframe bushings, not the control arm bushings. I weighed after market with originals, same weight, bushings looked the same, over 20K since, no problem with darting once I replaced subframe bushings. Also used after market bushings, no problem fraction of cost of Volvo parts which is insane. Did CV axle and got seals from Volvo, $34.00 each, found exact same manufacturer seals for half price after the fact, so I question all OEM parts.

Aftermarket control arms can absolutely cause a pull when braking. I've seen it twice. Not all aftermarket arms are the same, so it doesn't mean they will all do it by any means.

I did after market control arms on my 850 - the bushings failed after about 50K miles and I went back to OEM. I would strongly suggest OEM/Genuine Volvo if you plan on keeping the car more than the next 1-2 years.
