Default Antifreeze question

The Volvo manual says to use Volvo antifreeze. I know from my diesel trucks that good quality/fresh antifreeze is crucial to the life of the water pump. Is a good quality (ie:Prestone) long life antifreeze adequate for these vehicles, or do they require something special? On my trucks I use long life with water pump lubricant/antifreeze conditioner to keep my water pumps from wearing out. Will this same combination work for the Volvo?

If it is green, then you can use green coolant like Prestone or Zerex.

the synthetic (pink) antifreeze promises "lifetime" protection, the usual green staff is good for what? 3-4 years ?

I don't know -if I knew I would not be asking, but my other SUV (land rover) has a 3.2L volvo engine, and that one came from the factory w/ pink staff.
I don't know what Volvo uses in 3.2 L engine - my Volvo manual is for 2005 and volvo did not have 3.2L then.

BTW VOlvo got "lifetime" tranny fluid as well.
