Default Antifreeze

Hey guys.

I have a 96 850 Turbo. I was wondering what antifreeze you suggest and how many gallons should I by to do a flush? Also, do you suggest running a hose through it to wash some of the gook out or just replace the fluid? Thanks guys!

Just drain and refill the fluid.
Buy a Brand name coolant and you will be fine. You should need about 2 gallons of mixed already stuff. If you buy and mix 50/50 yourself then one gallon.

Just do not buy the Dex Cool coolant.

+1 what tech said.
I have done the system - drain, fill with fresh water, run for 10 mins, drain, fill up with coolant mixture.
Seems to have worked just fine for me.

Out of curiosity why not Dex-Cool? Is that specific to GM only?

OK did some research, if you add Dex-Cool to our glycol based antifreeze you get a jello substance! Yikes!!

The Dexcool was designed for a GM car only. I think 1 or 2 other car company's out there use it as well.
Thats why I said do not buy it.

I checked with the local Volvo dealer on this; their parts clerk who has worked there for years told me they use Prestone and change it every 30,000 miles.
