Hi all..
Are there any special tools needed to change the front Brake pads/ Rotors and can you turn the rotors even though the mnaufacture says not to?

 

You will need an Allen wrench socket set in Metric.

The rotors can be turned but I don't like to do it.

So I will leave it up to you.

You will have to remove the spring on the outside of the caliper.Start in the middle it snaps into place there.

 

Thanks for the tip...brake job was easier than on my Bemer ...One further question..I had to pay $300 for Volvo factory front rotor and pads...for the next change can you recommend any after market pads and rotors that are better priced?

 

Hi, Isorche -how many miles did you put on the car before changing brakes? I have 2005 XC90 and 1995 850. On 850 I can change pads at least once w/o changing the rotors. if it was your first set of brakes you probably could get away replacing pads only.
