Default Camshaft adjuster

Hi there - long story short, I took in vehicle (2005 XC90 2.5T 90K miles) for timing belt replacement service, and am being told that the camshaft adjusters look worn and also need to be replaced along with the seals for a significant cost ($1200). Is this a reasonable thing to have happen at this mileage? Searching the forums I don't see much or any mention of cam adjuster issues.

Thanks in advance!

by camshaft adjuster are they referring to the VVT (variable valve timing) hub (gear)? usually the VVT hubs (aka VVT gear) fail by leaking - not sure what you mean by looking "worn". Anyways here's RobertDIY's vid on how to replace etc. Note the hub assembly itself runs about $300 and access is the same process as a timing belt replacement (ie removing the timing belt is required so it makes sense to service the hub at the same time) and there is some extra time to properly adjust the hub to maintain proper valve timing.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, the "cam adjuster" is referring to the VVT hub. There were two of these in a "very worn out" condition and needed replacement is what I was given to understand.

who did the inspection - a Volvo dealer or an indy shop? Considering the cost for the parts is in the $600 range for both hubs, I'd probably ask a dealer or a volvo certified tech if the hubs can get "very worn out" - particularly if they are not leaking...
