check engine help
my 04 xc-90 is in the shop for the 4th time. code keeps coming up for a bad cat converter. first time dealer said change plugs and switch to plus grade gas. second time we changed the converter. third time oxygen sensors. this time who knows. any help would be great thanks.[:'(]

Cat converter failure is usually noticed by:
- Rattling noise.
- Rotten egg smell out of the tail pipe.
- Loss of engine performance due to blockage.
- Etc...
At this point the engine seems to be running rich as opposed to my bank account. It may only need a good tune up.
The XC90s seem to have very poorly designed electronic control systems, so as long as the vehicle is running fine, has no safety threatsor you are not required have emissions inspections done, I would leave it.

it is a 5 cyl. car does not rattle at all. no egg smell. car is in for every service like clock work. car is in perfect shape except for this. just got it back and they replaced a leaky manifold gasket???? i don't know about that. but they did it for free so its not too bad!!!!!!
