Default Check Engine Light is on: No verified fix

Hi there. I am a pretty experienced mechanic and I always do my own maintenance and repairs on everything I've ever owned. This time I am stumped. I need a current smog certificate and I have a check engine light on. The error code report stated that Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance.
Most Likely Solution states: No verified fix
Suggested Parts states: No suggested parts
I've attempted to reset my error codes and even disconnected the battery but check engine light is still on. Is this something that only a Volvo mechanic can do? I am stumped and I need to resolve this issue ASAP. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What Volvo code is that generic code equivilent to? If it's TCM0042 - here's what Volvo suggests might be the problem and how to test it.

Default Control module or sensor.

It sounds like I need to get the Volvo error code to find my exact problem. After I find and fix the problem will the on dash warning alert and the Check Engine Light clear by themselves or will those need to be cleared from the onboard computer?

Most codes have to be manually erased (using a compatible scan tool)
