Default CV Joint Failure

We just purchased an '03 XC90 2.5T FWD with about 60k miles. I am getting a clicking from the front left that sounds just like a worn cv joint. I have searched the archives, but have not found anybody else talking about cv joints. Anybody else had this problem? Am I going to have to replace the entire half shaft, or can I get just the joints?

Thanks,
Mike

i have seen on the T-6's where the LF shaft is busted allowing trans fluid and axle grease to mix.. easy way to check that is removed the center cap, and take the 14mm bolt out. if fluid comes out then you need a half shaft and if not now eventually a tranny.

Thanks tech and volvotechky. I cannot picture the center cap you are referring to, volvotechky. Are you talking about the outer hub cap? If fluid is there, that would mean the axle shaft is hollow - is that right?

Thanks,
Mike

I had the same problem with 03 XC90 T6. I took the vehicle in for service because I heard a clicking noise at low speed but it would go away after speed built up. Turned out that the CV Joint and the Shaft needed to be replaced along with the rack. Thank goodness for the warranty.
