Default What would be a symptom of ball joint failure?

I've got a noise coming from what seems like the driver's side when moving laterally. Steering seems tight, no real noticeable vibrations. Thoughts?

Hmm...sometimes I get that. I can't see any visible signs of failure of the joint. What would be the best way to test it?

If you can get down there and get a hold of the lower control arm and pull down, it would move if it was bad, or use a pry bar between control arm and steering knuckle. Is it maybe a upper spring seat??? Did you take a 21mm wrench to the upper strut nut, under the hood, and if it turns more than 360, it needs one.

No, I haven't tried either of those yet. How about the old prybar under the tire and lifting? I'm sure I'd see some movement if it was bad.

I guess that would work, but there is no need.

OK. It seems like it happens on smooth pavement while turning. I'm wondering if that would eliminate the upper spring seat...

All the front end components are tight. How much pressure should you apply when turning the top strut nut? It did turn some but I did not attempt to turn it 360.

That is enough if you used a 21mm wrench.
