Dealer Quoting $1400 to replace Door Window - DIY?
Hey everyone,
Some jerk broke into our 2020 XC90 via the driver side rear door. They broke the door window (the sliding window, not the fixed glass). I took it to our local dealer, and they quoted me $1400 to replace it. That seems insane to me.
I'm curious if this is a simple DIY, or if there are steps I'm not seeing. I see the glass itself for sale for $320 on several volvo parts websites, and it looks like the glass fits into a regulator with one bolt:

Is this as simple as removing the door panel, cleaning the broken glass, removing a bolt, sliding in the glass, and reattaching the bolt? Or are there other complexities I'm missing? I have replaced several windows before...but not on our XC90. My wife doesn't usually like me tinkering with her stuff, but a $1400 quote for a simple door window has her rethinking my abilities...

If someone broke into your 3 year old car - you will have insurance. And sometimes comprehensive insurance has a lower or no deductible. What does your insurance offer?
You could also ask an auto glass company such as safelite - what they would charge.
A rear door glass is a little more work than a front door glass - because of the little fixed window in the door. That and it's frame has to come out so the movable glass can come out.

Then get safelite to fix it.
I bought a gv70 3.5 Genesis last year - The spec sheet said it had mudflaps. It did not and I wanted them. I paid the salesman the wholesale price for the mudflaps and asked the service department how much to put them on. $180 was the reply. Took them home and spent 25 minutes installing them - figuring out/ reading the instructions, finding the tools. etc. 25 minutes total.
Perhaps - your dealer is not real excited about putting rear glass in - or knows it will be covered by insurance -
