Dipstick seal XC90
The handle on my dipstick broke off. When that happened the engine started surging, slightly, at idle and while driving.
My (not Volvo dealer) mechanic said I needed a new dipstick, since the V8 engine in my 2005 V8 is sensitive to air pressure leaks there.
I replaced the dipstick with a new one after pulling out the handle-less dipstick with pliers. The engine surging is still there.
When I bought the dipstick I also purchased a little $5 rubber o-ring, thinking it would fit on the dipstick itself and further seal the dipstick hole. But the o-ring does not fit ON the dipstick.
I am wondering if I should just shove it down the larger entry hole to the bottom, where the narrow stick slot starts.

My dipstick also broke off at the handle. I found a replacement on Amazon I believe with the top o ring already installed. I'd find the correct o ring that fits in the handle in a recess to ensure it stays put or replace the whole unit..
