DIY: Hood Strut Mod ---> Free!
OK,
The joy of owning an old car is sometimes the hood strut gets old and the hood drops down on your head while you are changing spark plugs lol... This is not fun.
In theory, you can prop the hood with broomstick etc.
Now, each hood strut is $30, so $60 total for something that should not cost you any money. Japanese cars use metal rod, which is simple and there is nothing to fix.
I will show you a free mod, all you need is:
- Zip Ties
- Chopstick from take-out restaurant
1. The distance for the rod part is 8-1/4 inches.
2. Cut the chopstick a tiny longer than 8-1/4 inches so it is a tight fit.
3. Place it with zip ties. Don't tighten the zip ties too much, just snug it.
4. When done, simply "hide" the chopstick as shown.
Simple, right?

Nah, Chopstick is better than Duct Tape lol...
Seriously, I'd rather spend $60 on synthetic oil/filter, new spark plugs, air filter etc., i.e., the important stuff than this hood struts thingy. Basically a waste of money. I have the budget for this, but that is not the issue. The issue is: it is a waste of money.
