Do You Know What This Is?
Hi - 2007 XC90 3.2. I was changing my oil today and was looking around under the car after I removed the plastic cover. I noticed what seems like a lot of play in this piece. I can wiggle it back-and-forth or twist it and there is about 1/4' of play. Wondering if this is normal?
The reason I'm even asking is that when driving and the car downshifts from 3rd to 2nd, it's rough. Kind of a jarring (and definitely not normal) shift. Wishful thinking is that it's the motor mounts and not the transmission. The virtually worthless Chilton DIY website is less than helpful in even locating where the motor mounts are.
Ultimately want to know what this is and if the amount of play is normal. If anyone can tell me where to locate the motor mounts, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

looks like one of the torque rods - and if that's it, there should be nominal play (its like a motor mount). Check out some of the diagrams on TASCAPARTS.COM to see if you can match location - the 3.2s have top, bottom and side torque rods...
Hi Mt - Great call. It is a torque rod and the play is more than nominal. Will eventually replace this and try to remember to update the thread to let you all know if it has any effect on the downshift (seems like a bit of a long shot). Great parts site by the way. Thank you.
