Default Engine temp problem

The water pipe/hose went south on me last week while driving, yes it did overheat, after replacement the engine will not get back up to temp, shoot it barley moves at all, my guess is the thermostat is stuck open now, used a parts store brand of antifreeze, orange in color could this have an effect on thermostat and cause this issue and will changing it out make any difference I,m thinking not but just asking.
Now if I change out the thermostat is it necessary or recommended to change the housing also, thinking why not if I,m there.

Orange antifreeze can not be mixed with green as the combo can create a gel that clogs the radiator.

WIth that said, you should do a drain, flush, fill with the appropriate antrifreeze type (for your year it should be blue, but may be green. Not orange, red/pink or yellow...When you're doing the drain/fill you may want to pop open the thermostat and replace, and ;inspect inside the overflow tank to see if there's any gunk.
