An excessive and premature wear and tear on my XC90'04 tires
Hola, I am the new TexMex in the block. I am a service member stationed in Europe-Germany since 2000 and my family is with me; we purchased our XC90 on June 2004; a T6. On May 2005, we had to replace our four factory tires (at our own expense) and in October 2005, we had to replace another two tires (at Volvo dealership's expense), again. We followed all the service guidance and had our Volvo serviced three times before August 2005. I wrote to the Global Requestor Relations Advisor on Sweden for assistance in this matter. At the end, the Volvo dealership at Widen, Germany will replace two tires and conduct a free alignment (second time) free of charge to my wallet. This is OK and my wife and I are gratefull with this approach to customer satisfaction. However, neither the Volvo in Sweden nor the Volvo dealership in Widen, Germany are able to let us know the cause of this premature wear and tear of the tires. Also, the dealreship manager does not want to provide a diagnostic in writing of what is causing this problem. We just want to fix this car before we keep driving the car and every 5K or 8K have to replace tires. The wear happen on the outer edge of the tires, more than likely is on the front tires; the car had 14,000 (May 05) miles when we replaced the first set of tires and had 20,000 (Oct 05) miles when we replaced the next two set of tires.
Please, if someone out there has a suggestion to this problem, let us know as soon as you can. The XC90 is great! My wife loves the car. As a note, I have been deployed to Iraq since January '05 and my wife is the one dealing with these issues; remember "...do not mess with Texas..."

if your car is an AWD then you should be rotating your tires every three thousand miles as the AWD models in any car all wear differently, i was advised to rotate at each oil change, and this is what i do and have had no problem so far.[8D]
didnt know if you knew that.

Keep this issue in front of the Volvo dealer. It has to be that either the alignment is out or there is damage to the suspension that prevents the alignment from being done to specification. If there is no damage, and there is no mechanical problem, the alignment should take care of the tire wear issue. Maybe even negoitiate with the Volvo dealership for an independent alignment from a third party. Kind of like getting a second opinion from a medical doctor. Keep good records of all the work and tires you have replaced and appeal to the Volvo factory if necessary.
