Default Front End Noise

Just got back from a cross country drive to Virginia and back. I noticed a sort of howl/rumble coming from the front end at speeds from about 40 mph and up, but it doesn't seem to get louder the faster I go. I also noticed that the tires (all four) are wearing faster on the inside edge than on the middle or outside. I have rotated front to back, but not side to side. The tires are the Pirelli Scorpions. I just had the ball joint recall performed prior to leaving on this trip, but the noise was present before the work was done. I now have 19K on the car and original tires. Anyone else have this noise, and could it be tire related?

Thanks for any input.

Niel

Could very well be the tires making the noise.

Thanks, I'll keep driving on these tires for now, and maybe cross rotate them to see if this makes a difference. Definitely looking at new tires including Goodyear Wrangler HP and Goodyear Fortera. Also maybe Continental Contitraks. Any comments on these?

Sorry I kind of Like the Michellins. I also like Kuhmo.

I've seen both before, infact, I had Michelins on my Chevy Blazer. Had good wear, but it only took a small rock at the corner of the tread and sidewall to destroy the tire on a mountain road. I've seen Kuhmo's on several other cars before, but I don't know anything about them, other than that they seem to be more affordable. Haven't seen them on any SUV's. Anyone else out there used them?
