2014 XC90 and decided to replace the shift **** with one that is leather. Researched and it appears to be a simple procedure. No tools required and only four easy steps. Should only take a couple of minutes to complete. Problem starts with step #1. "Loosen the gaiter from the gear lever **** by turning the lock ring on the inside 1/4-turn, and pull down the gaiter." After a half hour of trying I still can't get the lock ring to rotate. Instructions indicate CCW rotation. Tried both ways. Even tried, gently, using a pair of pliers. Will not budge. Am I doing something wrong or is the 2014 different from previous models?
