Default Is This A Good Deal?

I've the option to buy a 2004 XC90 2.5T with 43K miles on it. 3rd row seat, plus rear DVD entertainment system for 21K. Vehicle is extremely clean and all service has been done, plus factory warranty remains until 6/08. I'm very serious about it - thinking of purchasing this weekend - what does everyone think? BTW - new to the forum and new to Volvo auto, but Volvo XC90 is definitely my next vehicle.[/align]

Have it checked by a Volvo or trusted mechanic. If it comes out clean then give it a whirl. The avg. trade in is $20,550 and clean retail is $23,675.

I don't know any trusted mechanics in the area - the vehicle is 100 miles from me, in an area I'm not familiar with. I'm supposed to be going to check it out tomorrow. Does it sound like to good of a deal or something?

Well it's right in the middle between trade in and clean retail value. So, no I wouldn't say it is too good to be true. Call the owner and have them give you the numbers of several mechanics. If it looks good and checks out and you are comfortable with the price then I would think it would be fine.

I personally would avoid any XC90 that is equipped with GM-built transmission. The V8 model comes with Yamaha-built transmission that does not fail as the GM unit does.

If you don't know any trusted mechanic, try locating a shop that specialises in Swedish/European makes, and make sure that the technicians at the shop are all fully-certified ASE Master Technicians. I would avoid average town shops or any of the franchise shops.

A good piece of info, thanks.

Topshotta,

2.5T would not be such a nightmare as the one with GM-tranny so it may be a good deal.

what models have the gm tranny? i am looking for a xc90 for my wife and am trying to educate myself. consumer reports seems to hate all of them, so i can't really go by their opinions.
what else does the first time xc90 buyer need to know?

All XC90s seem to have ball joint recall.
