GPS problem
If your GPS DVD drive is located under the driver's seat (like mine) you might have unintentionally unlocked the DVD cover. If so, just slide the cover back into lock position. If this does not solve your problem eject the DVD and inspect it for dirt & scratches. If dirty you can clean it with mild soap water and gently dry it with paper towels. Don't rub. If scratched you might want to try various DVD surface repair kits available at RadioShack, etc. Worst case this might be your excuse to upgrading to the latest map version (upgraded every year) but this will cost you a couple of hundred $. Good luck.
Hello all,
In follow up to my navigation problem, I brought the car to the dealer and they said the DVD has a scratch or a mark on it. Well, sure enough, it has a horseshoe shaped mark on it very close to the center of the disc. My question is: “Is it possible this was caused by the machine itself? “ Does anyone know how the disc is actually read by the machine? I’ve never taken the disc out of the machine since I’ve had the car and I am wondering how this mark got on the disc…They said to buy another disc which I just did on ebay.
What if the same problem occurs with a new disc? It has to be the machine?
The problem is intermittent but most of the time the DVD screen says please wait….and then it says the DVD cannot be read.
thanks

Since the DVD uses a lazer to read the disc there should not be any mechanical contact or damage unless the disc was previously damaged. If it happens again I would suspect something has come loose. I hope you got the latest DVD version with the most recent updates.
I'm too cheap to but the latest one. I bought one that is 2 years newer. I wish I could show a pictureof th emark, it doesn't have rough edges, it resembles melting-it's rather smooth.
