Default Help! 2005 2.5T Sounds Like a Diesel

Hi guys - really hoping someone can help me, I've only had this car for a couple months, recently noticed it was sounding a lot like a diesel (see video below), also has lost power and has a slight rough idle at the lights.

From what I can find online (other than the sounding like a diesel) it could possibly be an ignition coil/plug that's gone so it's dropped a cylinder but I'm really new to all of this so I don't have much of a clue. I took all the ignition coils and plugs out this evening to try and find anything really obvious with no such luck.

I was considering replacing all coils and plugs but this isn't exactly cheap so don't want to do it if there's no chance it'll fix it... any help would be appreciated.

Further reading online, could this be the result of a blocked PCV system? would that explain the loss in power, ticking sound and slightly rough idle?

The reason I ask is I did notice some oil around the coils...

Check the gas/mileage first. If the gas/mileage is good, it could be the turbo making the engine sound louder than it should.

I tell you this from years of experience:
Don't do that.

That is what we call "shotgunning parts" into a problem.

Take it easy, and diagnose what is wrong.
Any monkey can replace parts until it stars working again.

I just watched your video.
I would buy a compression gauge, and check out the readings in your cylinders.

It sounds to me you have one (or more) broken valves.

Sorry I wasn't able to open the video before. I just did. Let me take back what I said earlier. It is not the turbo. Sounds like valve/piston. I would suggest taking it to a mechanic.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? Mine just started making the same sound this evening. I haven't had a loss of power or anything, but i notice that it only makes the noise when idling, not when i accelerate.

Hi there - check out the link a few posts above, i updated that forum with full details. It was oil sludge causing sticking, to the point where a couple cylinders stopped working. Not sure what you can do to check it out because my guys didn't know until they took the engine apart and found all the sludge.
