Help! 2006 XC90 Fuel Line Issues
My '06 XC90 2.5L with 175K miles has been giving me fuel pressure issues this entire spring. Here is the saga:
1. Issue started when the car didn't start. Towed to mechanic, discovered that the fuel pump needed to be replaced along with fuel pump control module and filter.
2. Two days later CEL came on. Brought it back to the mechanic, said that the previous fuel pump was faulty. They replaced it.
3. Next week hesitation when driving above 40mph and hesitation going up hill. Took it back to mechanic, car was losing fuel pressure due to "a second faulty fuel pump." Put a third one in.
4. One month later CEL came on, code was high fuel pressure. Took it to mechanic, they replaced the fuel pressure sensor, said it was faulty.
5. One month after that, driving on level highway passing a semi and the car jumps twice, as if engine lost power. Continued up the hill until there was an exit, as I was driving up the hill the car lost significant power. I was on a 1/4 tank of gas. Towed back to the mechanic and he said the code was low fuel pressure. Also live data saying that the fuel pump was stuck in a high power cycle, basically being overworked. He said the filter was dirty and needed to be changed, probably from a bad tank of gas, even though he didn't see anything in the tank. Replaced the filter.
I've had the car back for less than 24 hours now and it seems okay, but I don't feel confident in driving it. Can a fuel filter really be clogged in less than 3 months? Is there something my mechanic is missing? Similar experiences? Thoughts?
Your help is much appreciated!

Update: There was sediment in the gas tank that kept going through the fuel line, clogging the filter, messing up the pump and causing low fuel pressure. Car seems to be running fine now and no CEL. Using higher octane every few fill-ups.
