Default Intermittent dead cylinder???

Had codes that pointed to timing. Check engine and reduced power light on.
Pulled timing cover and Tensioner lost the plastic sleeve on roller, causing belt to slacken a lot and throw codes. On cold engine start, engine raced up and down till warm up. During driving, at starts from a stop, engine sputter till about 10 mph then smooth out.
Now after belt replacement and tensioner, car starts up normal no more racing, now constant rpm till warm up. But little bit rough idle now.
smooths out after about 1k rpm, idles around 500-800 rpm. Driving seemed great till about 30 miles. Now after about every 2 miles cough and sputter with engine light flashing for about 5 sec. then smooth back out for about another 2 miles or more. Then do it again. All this around 45 to 65 mph.
I hear dead cylinder from buddy, but I don't understand the intermittent sputter then smooth back out if that's the case.
