Mile range reading goes up and down. Why?

We just took our first road trip in the 2019 XC90 T8 and has a good experience overall. But I have a couple questions.
When I filled the gas tank up, it read a 230 mile range. But then as we were driving, that number rose and fell. As high as 330. What is causing this?
Also, what happens if you’re driving in PURE mode and run out of battery power? Does it auto switch to Hybrid? I found that we were in PURE mode for a long time after the battery icon showed zero power. And then I thought I also heard the gas engine while also in PURE.
THANK YOU FOR ANY INSIGHTS.

As ES6T says, you can fuel up in town and work your way to the highway...during that time the mileage range will be X.
When you get to the highway, the fuel economy computer sees improved real mileage and recalculates.
Definitely read your manual for all that PURE business. I've never heard of it as my vehicles are all old.
Perhaps in the near future there'll be a new forum dealing with hybrid performance.
