Default Navigation Questions

I bought a 2005 XC90 w/ navigation recently. The navigation seems sub-par. It doesn't list hardly any streets at all except for the one you're driving on. I know I have a 2003/2004 DVD which is what they gave me at the Volvo dealership. Does anyone know if new versions have better maps with more detail? Also, does anyone know a good place to download one to test out before I spend the $199?

Thanks in advance!

Default RE: Navigation Questions

I've got the Nav system on my 08 and it shows all the streets I need. The big weakness is the POIs. It easy to see what Volvo specified because the POIs are clearly for travelers; motels, food places, etc., but if you live in the city and want to find something not related to travel, well, you're pretty much out of luck. My hand held Garmin has 6 million POIs and Volvo has 1.5 million. I haven't yet, but intend to write a letter suggesting they increase the number. If everyone did that perhaps future updates will have more POIs.

You might go to the nearest dealer and ask to look at a new Volvo with Nav and see if the number of streets meets your needs before you spend the $200.
