Default O2 sensor help-NEWBY ALERT!

2006 XC90
It threw a P0031 so I bought and installed a Bosch O2, bank 1 location 1. Now after it was installed I cleared the code twice and it has come back a third time. Any suggestions as what to do next? Is something else wrong and I wasted $250 on an O2 sensor?

Thanks in advance for any help this is really torquing me off!!!

the easiest thing to check is to unplug the 02 sensor where it connects to the harness and check that the harness connector has one pin getting +12 volts (with key in on position) and one pin that is grounded. you need a multimeter. it is unlikely you had 2 bad sensors so more likely a wirring issue.

Thanks for the reply, is it likely that only the Volvo dealer can clear the code?
I will check the harness when I get home tonight.

you can clear the code with an OBD 2 scan tool available for $50 at any auto parts store or they will do it for you for free.
