Default Are O2 sensors grounded through the exhaust?

My assumption is ‘no’, but I wanted to ask anyway…

I installed a stainless steel spacer between the bank 2 downstream sensor and the bung as a temporary fix to my catalytic converter issue (P0430 code.) Before I even started the car however, I checked the codes (to erase them before starting it) and it returned a P0056 and P0057, which says the sensor is not preheating/ circuit voltage is too low. I did not get this code before removing and reinstalling the sensor.

The only two problems I could think of are; 1) I inadvertently damaged the sensor’s wires in the process or; 2) The stainless steel spacer is not conducting electricity as well as the steel pipe, so the circuit is not closed. I’m assuming it’s ‘1’, but before I go buy a new O2 sensor I figured I’d ask. It’s a 4-wire sensor, so I would’ve thought the ground would be one of them. I could just go remove the spacer and reinstall the O2 sensor without it to confirm, but that’s an hour I don’t have right now.

Thoughts?

O2 sensors are not grounded through the exhaust. Don't know what engine you have but the 5, 6, and 8 cylinder O2 sensor heaters are powered from fuse 14 in the b fusebox.

Thanks. So you're just noting they're all grounded through fuse 14, not that fuse 14 is blown, correct? (That would throw a different code.)

Looks like O2 sensor heaters are powered from fuse 14. Should have 12v at the gn/bn wires going to each O2 sensor with the engine running. No ground connections are shown in previous diagram - Only ground wires I see on the ecm is at point 31/2

the four wires are for the heater (power and return) and the sensor (voltage and return).
