Default Parking break on 04' xc90

Recently bought a 2004 xc90....just discovered parking break not working and was told by dealer that parking breaks on this car only work when in neutral, this doesn't make sense...anyone have similar experience? anyone w/an xc90...how does your parking break work? like any other car?

Doesn't make sense to me either.

Have you gone over the owner's manual?

Other XC90 owners or Moderator Tech would be replying to you soon, but if you need to have it fixed NOW, I would call several dealers and ask them the question.

I would also make sure that recalls on your XC90 have already been taken care of:

I'm sorry I couldn't help you better as I am not privy to the XC90s.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually took it to a Volvo dealer on sat. and had it fixed, it is now working like it should....still not sure what they were trying to say about how it actually works.... but it's functioning like any a parking break should, so that's all i care about!

As a lot of times they did not know-some newer cars (S80)have elecric parking brake, and that get automatically released as you shift out of park/ neutral into the drive, but it is still mechanical brake on XC90s.
