Default Please help. Should I get a used XC90?

I am currently driving a 2018 Subaru Outback, bu my lease is getting ready to be up. I have always wanted to drive a luxury SUV and my dream car is the XC90. We would not be able to purchase brand new, as our budget/car payments will only allow us to go up to $40,000. We test drove a 2016 XC90 with 33,000 miles on it and fell in love. But after doing the research and talking to a friend that sold her XC90, we are thinking this isn't a smart move for us. So, I thought I'd jump on here and get opinions and guidance. It continues to come up that the 2016 has had some major electrical issues. I have read numerous times about people driving down the highway and the vehicle just shuts off or the screen goes black. I have read that this vehicle is constantly in the shop. Part of me says run the other way, and the other part says but it's everything we want in a vehicle. I'm wondering if we should only purchase the 2016 if we make sure that work has been done to it that others are having problems with. I'm also wondering if we should try and get a 2017 in our price range. Did they work some of the kinks out in 2017? Really would like some guidance here. Thank you!

There are lemon laws and regulations, which can require manufacturers to buy back vehicles with problems. Why not use them has been painful until now.

If you really like the car, another option is consider buying an extended warranty. it may cost you 1000 to 2000 dlrs but considering the total value of the car, it will give you some peace of mind. you can also do some research on reliability ratings (ie via Consumer Reports) but keep in mind those are simply going to identify probability of a fail vs other models. I'd pay more attention to how the car was maintained (ie dealer service, full records, regular updates for service bulletins etc). If you buy from a dealer, consider what they offer for their certified pre-owned warranty.

Same boat. Test drove one and it's beautiful w/ 3 row. But wondering if 2016 is best avoided as model year 1 but are newer ones better?
