rear breakrotors changing

Brakes...
I am not sure how YOUR brakes are set up but most disc brakes have 2 screws holding them in place.
Remove the brake assembley and hang with a coat hanger so the brakes is not hanging from the hose.
There should be 2 phillips screws in the rotor... BEFORE you try to loosen the screws... take a hammer and screw driver and tap on the screws a little to help break the rust on the screw. remove the screws and pull on the rotor.
if you replace the rotors you should also replace the brake pads.
Do one side at a time so you can look at how the assembley went together.

DIY Rear Brake Rotor Change
Look for Brembo or EBC replacements on the net. You can find the right ones in several on-line warehouses. About $80 each. Be careful though. The front and rear rotors are not always the same so make sure of the size you have before ordering. They are either 316mm or 336mm. I also used Akebono Ceramic Pads which eliminates the brake dust you get from the soft compounds used by the factory. Use the rubberized film to coat the back of the calipers so they don't squeel.
The previous reply is not accurate. The removal of the brake calipers on an XC 90 is much different than if you've done this before on an American car. You have to completley remove the caliper and the arm that holds it around the rotor. The caliper takes an Allen wrench to remove the two (2) screws, I believe they were 7MM. But the bolts that hold the caliper arm onto the calipers are glued by the factory with "red" Loctite. Its tough stuff to break loose. I've had to use a 4 to 5 foot long breaker bar on some just to get them loose. Search this forum or some others on the net. There are some great people out there who have taken step by step pictures of the process to follow. If you don't have a manual, I'd highly recommend finding those pictures/steps to help make the job easier.
Good luck. You can do it.
