Tire wear issues ...
First, read this:
I have a 2005 SUV with the 18" Goodyear Wranglers and 13,600 mile on it.
The tires are nearly gone and have worn unevenly.
This is the answer to the complaint:
The SUV is set up from the factory with negative camber in the alignment. This is normal and designed to better the handling and cornering aspects of the vehicle. It WILL wear the inside edge of the tires. Not rotating them and low air pressure exxagerate this wear. we are seeing short life out of these tires under those conditions. So Rotate your tires every 3000 to 5000 miles and keep your air pressure topped off. That means checking them every month at least.
Guess, where it came from -LR3 forum.
Seems that cars/SUVs similar size and weight have similar tire wear problems.

RE: Tire wear issues ...
That's good to know! Mine are starting to wear on the inside edge too, and I only have 11K miles on the 17" Pirelli Scorpions. the owners manual doesn't address rotation, but I understand that these tires are either
directional or are supposed to remain on the same side of the vehicle at all times. Sooooo, I guess if you rotate, then it would be front to back and back to front while staying on the same side. By the way, what is the -LR3 forum?

LR3 is Land Rover forum.
Update on my '05 V8 -after dealer performed wheel alignement, the steering wheel is off about 15 degrees -going back tomorrow. I do rotation about every 5000-6000 miles-usually you move front right to rear left, front left to rear right, rears go to the same sides in the front. Guys at Costco tire center say that they do not cross tires-just swich them front to back, etc.

Thanks for the info. Your method of cross rotating is what I usually use, except on my C4 and C5 which have larger tires on the rear than the front. My Jag x-type uses directional tires too, so they can only be switched front to back and vice versa. Since the owners manual says to keep the tire rotation in the same direction throughout the tire life, I guess I'll use the same method on the Volvo as on the Jag.

RE: Tire wear issues ...
From my research the VolvoAWD are very hard on the tire wear. Owners are replacing their tires at 15-20k (mils). They claim due to the way the Volvo AWD is build results in a fast wearing on the tires treads. I currently have Michelins Piolts but they are making a funny noise and treads have worn.

I plan on getting the Nokian WR G2 SUV (all Season), they are hard to find and run about $200-$240 p/tire[] (may need to order online)
If i'm going to replace my tires every 15-20mil, I figure it would run about the same $$ wise to invest inthe Nokian Tireswhich (is about 45,000 miles) If interested in the Nokian, check out Josh Spangler @ tiresbyweb@gmail.comor 800 576-1009 ext 775 (May offer a little discount- Tell him Liz from the volvo forum refrered you)
