Tranny Flush on 07' XC90 V8
I know that topic has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find on "how to" section for flushing the transmission fluid nor what type/brand of transmission fluid to buy besides the oem product. My model does not have the dipstick to check the fluid level.
So, I called the dealership asking them what would they charge for flushing. They came back and said, we don't that here and they don't recommend doing the transmission fluid flush whatsoever.
Am I missing something here or the dealership doesn't to take my money....
I start calling around.. I came across two (2) Indy shops specialized in Swedish cars and they recommended to all their customers to the transmission flushed every 30K miles with full synthetic transmission fluid, and only with synthetic fluid.
At 80K miles now, so I am planning on flushing my own transmission fluid this weekend or next. I am leaning toward Redline product over Toyota and Mobil 3099 fluid.
Please let me know if you guys had done this recently and if you did the work yourself or the shop.
Thanks,
Jay

Volvo does not recommend performing trans flushes at all to their cars. Some dealers choose to flush them and some don't. Here in California the dealership that I work at does not do transmission flushes since it is supposedly lifetime fluid. However when I worked in Colorado a lot of the money I made came from transmission flushes so it all depends on the dealers.

Would you know if the original transmission fluid is semi-synthetic or non-synthetic? I am planning on doing a flush and fill for 3 times within 1K miles each time. I also thinking of using RedLine D4 full synthetic, but not sure if I can run the original fluid with synthetic without issues.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you want to switch to synthetic just check your owners manual for the exact Volvo spec required then choose a synthetic that is specifically compatible to that spec. I would stay away from any machine to do a flush and stick to drain/fill or the IPD version of a flush where you disconnect a cooler line and pump out 3 qts/add 3 qts until you go through a total of 12 qts.
