Default Transmission fluid and flush?

We just bought an 03 XC90 T5 AWD. The tranny fluid is burnt and needs changing. I know the dealer recommends Volvo fluid. Duh. That's what all dealers recommend. But my mechanic uses Wolfs head full synthetic. We're wondering if this is a compatible fluid, or do we have to use only Volvo? It's my wife's vehicle, so it has to be dependable. We love the vehicle and want it to last, so we need it right. But I know that a lot of times, aftermarket is better than OEM. I need to know quick, so we can get this done. Thanks ahead for the help.

there are multiple types of auto trans fluid. for example, +4 is one type. each manufacturer seems to use its own type. i would look in the owner and service manuals and it should tell you what type to use. using the wrong type is not a good idea.

Thanks. From what we can find, as long as it's OK to use anything rated for "global" and t4.
