Upgrading potentially
Hi, im considering upgrading from my old 850 to a 2014 xc 90. It has 192k on it. Its in really good shape. It is getting a p0430 error, the current owner was up front about that.
I have not looked at the carfax yet, so this post may be premature. I guess the reason im asking this early is I know for the older volvo wagons under 200k and well maintained means you can get a lot of life out of them, maybe even another 100k+.
whats the story on the 2014 xc90? Is there anything I should check for that should scare me right off or conversely something thats a good sign? Do these have the timing belt issues the previous incarnations had? Where it only lasts 70k or something?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
happy driving

You might want to google those part numbers and prepare to be shocked at the price. The factory parts are about $1100 each. Aftermarket converters are cheaper because they have less precious metals in them (that make the converter work) and may not last very long.
As far as 300k out of a Volvo - That's way beyond my comfort level - my comfort level is about 170k when it's time to sell. As someone who fixed Volvos for a living for 38 years - Very rarely would we see a Volvo with over 200k in the shop. If cars existed with that mileage - they were not serviced at a retail garage.
KBB thinks that car without problems is worth maybe $5000 - subtract a few thousand for converters and maybe O2 sensors installed making it a $2000 car. I'd bet the current owner wants more than that.
