Where is the fuel pressure regulator on an XC90?

A little of both. I replaced the fuel pressure sensor on the injection rail when it showed the code for that problem and the code changed to fuel pressure regulator. Working back I changed the filter but no luck. The car itself shows no indications that it is starved for fuel but I do a lot of driving on highways where there are no facilities for many miles so I am a little concerned. I guess the next step is to buy a gauge and do a pressure test and if that doesn't show anything find out if I have an integrated fuel pump or a separate regulator. The car is a 2005 XC90, if you happen to know. I can't find much information on the subject.

If you think you have a fuel/pressure related problem you will need a gauge and a compatible scan tool that can give the info shown below. A common problem is the fuel pump duty cycle is higher than 40%, and the pump is running too much. The solution for that is usually a new pump, unless there's something in the bottom of the tank that's not supposed to be there or some other restriction.
The pump does not run at full speed. So you will need to know how much fuel pressure the ECU wants there to be - to be able to get any valid data from a mechanical gauge.

I understand. It can't hurt to change out the fuel pump, they are relatively inexpensive and not too hard to change from what I understand. And if that's not the problem I still have a spare fuel pump for the seldom traveled roads I travel out here in the Southwest.
