I'm a Volvo Forum virgin, so please be gentle with me...

I'm based in South Africa and I have a 2007 XC90 D5. Recently I have been noticing diesel exhaust smell in the cabin on start-up, acceleration when cold and when coming to a halt.

I suspect the DPF or the Exhaust Gas Regulator, but is there any way I can check the parts easily?

Is there a resource that shows the correct procedure for removing the EGR, and any tips on servicing it?

Any help will be gratefully received.
