Default Grill Modification...

I saw a an older C70 (maybe 2000) and liked the Grill on it. Seems cooler than the stock one I have. This one has the perimiter in silver with the side stripe silver and everything else in black BUT instead of the center having perpendicular lines it had squares instead of the egg crate I have seen ( makes sence?). So I thought of finding a c70 and cutting out the inside part and taking an 850 grill and adding that on the inside OR taking an xc70 grill and cutting it and adding it to the inside of a hollowed out 850 one. Makes sence? Does anyone know sizes on the 850 (1997) vS c70 (2000) grill [sm=smiley25.gif]

850 and 70 series grilles are different... Also xc70 grilles are different then both of the previous listed.

Squares is the eggcrate style grille.

850 Grille

70 Series Grille

70 Series Eggcrate Grille

70 Series Black Mesh Grille

Yes, I know the 2 are different. I guess I am looking to see if anyone knows the size differences as I'd hate to orde 3 grills to chop up and modify and waste my money. The 70 looks similar in size from the 850 but I think the 850 is taller and wider than the s and so that's where the xc would come in. I would gut that out and add to the frame of the 850. The idea to me seems cool, just trying to figure out my route. Ok, cool. Thanks for the clarification on the egg crate!

So you own a 70 series I take it? How is the frame of an 850 grille going to fit a 70 series? Also take that vice versa, how is a 70 series grille frame going to fit an 850?

I own a 97 850, but I just saw the pics. u posted. I guess looking at those, it answered my question. I would use the frame of the 850 grill and cut the "guts"out with a dremmel and them do the same with the 70 or xc90 and then fit to size the "guts" into the 850 frame. but in looking the pics., the 70 looks narrower on the bottom side and so i gues i would have to chop up an xc90 grill... It's just an idea as that grill on the coupe I saw was WAY nicer than any other one I have ran across. Thanks for the pics, S70driver!

You'll have to post this grille you saw. Because other then what I posted it has to be a very custom job.
