'87 240: where do I start?

Default '87 240: where do I start?

Hello all! Firstly, I apologize if this is already a widely covered topic on this site, I am quite new to forums; especially this one.
Recently, my father told me he would spend no more than 25,000 dollars on my first car, as he spent that much on my siblings when they received their licenses (disgusting I know). As a car enthusiast, I was open to many options. My first choices were any 60's mopar. However, to my surprise, I found my self helplessly attracted to the mid 80's 240s. So, after a couple test drives, I fell in love with an 87 dl 5 speed manual. It was a steal at 2100$!
So, my question is: where do I start!?
One thing you should all know is that I am NOT an irresponsible 16 year old. I love my car for what it is, and I treat it with utmost respect. That being said, I am looking to increase its performance specifications. 114 hp isn't too much to play with, and I'm definitely looking for more. I have new struts and aftermarket sway bars, so my chassis can handle a bit more power around the turns. As far as natural aspiration goes, I was looking into some head work, followed by a free flowing exhaust system, then a new camshaft? Is this dangerous to do with an engine with 240k mileage? Also, if everything goes well if eventually like to add a turbo and inter cooler from a 740. Will this work? What kind of power can I expect? Am I an idiot who knows nothing of what they're talking about?? Let me know!! -skip

easiest thing to do is transplant the whole engine, intercooler, ECU, harness, etc from a late 940 turbo.

if you beef up a car with a M47 5-speed, go easy on that throttle, its not as sturdy a gearbox as the M46 4-speed w/ overdrive used on the 740 turbos of the early 80s.
