Default Is it possible to replace m47 with m46?

My 88 240 sedan's transmission is a little bit messed up. It is exceptionally difficult to shift into 1st and 2nd gear, and if I push the peddle to the floor, the car slips out of gear and acts as if I am pushing the peddle down in neutral, because the car just revs up the RPMs. Unless someone can give me a plan of action to fix this issue, someone offered me a M46 tranny for $75 in working condition, and I was wondering if it fits. I've already completely re-wired an m46 transmission in my 86' wagon, minus the wiring from the fuse box to the relay, so I am pretty confident I can wire it. I did a google search, and couldn't find a solid answer on whether or not the tranny fit. So... does it fit?

sure it fits, may be the driveshaft length is different due to the overdrive unit but the rest is the same...

You'll need the front driveshaft from the M46, the transmission crossmember from M46, the wire harness to activate the overdrive, the relay for the OD, the shifter with switch for the OD and a different clutch disc and pressure plate.
Sure it can be done...but it might be cheaper to get a new clutch kit and rebuild the existing transmission. Sounds like the brass pads on the 1-2 shift fork are worn out. They are easily replaced.
