I need a little bit of help please
I have a 96 850 turbo wagon but someone changed the motor out. My car came with B5234T but it a non turbo now. I want to go back with the motor it came with. So how can I tell what motor I have in it now? On the timing cover it has B5234T on it so I'm lost cause this is my first volvo and I really want to put the turbo back in it can anyone help me please and thanks

Is there physically no turbo on the engine? Is there a black curvy metal pipe running over the top of the engine?
Swapping a turbo to a non-turbo is not something you see often. The code on your timing belt cover suggests it should be a turbo engine. I'm not sure why someone would go through through as much trouble as to swap the exhaust, ECU and all other turbo-related parts from the car just so he could install a non-turbo engine, instead of just lifting a new turbo-engine in.
Or, he took a NA car, swapped the timing cover and simply sold you the car saying "look it says B5234T on the cover, it's a turbo!".

I got the car from a car lot. I checked the vin on the car and it started as a turbo car. But the intercooler is still in front of the car but the hoses has been removed and at the back of the motor it has a header and no turbo but I can see the water lines that is blocked of for the turbo. So what I'm trying to see now do I have a NA 2.4 or still a 2.3 that the turbo has been removed now and if so what computer I will need for a 96 2.3. I can find the turbo manifold and turbo and all the pipe on eBay. I just want to know is a way to tell what motor that is the car now. Thanks

I think you should be able to tell by the large water hose that runs along the back of your engine. Turbo models will have two ports next to each other, one leading to the firewall for your heating, the other to the turbo.
If your engine still has the connector (but blocked) on the metal water hose, I think you still have a 2.3 with just the turbo removed.
A better way to tell (but i'm not sure if you have the access) is to see if the block has the opening for the oil return line. Basically there should be a hole in the actual block somewhere under where your turbo would've been.
Do you also still have the turbo control valve? Screwed to the side of the airbox with 3 ports on it and an electrical connector.

I always find it odd when people ask for help but don't put anything in their post, sig line, or bio to indicate where they are. If you were anywhere near me, I'd drive over to help you if for no other reason then to see how in the world this car runs. A turbo, with the turbo removed and everything plugged up? Geez....the things people do to cars.

Well, the only thing actually changed to what the computer sees, is that there is no boost pressure. Other than that, the process is is basically run by your MAF and Lambda sensors. The only thing the ECU controls on the turbo, is the TCV that basically controls just your wastegate.
So I'm not too surprised it still runs well. It just doesn't have the added pressure.
But hey good news right? just slap on a turbo and you're good to go!

I have all that stuff that I need to sell. I bought a 97 Turbo, engine was bad. I never could find a good cylinder head around here, so I stole a bunch of parts off it, but I have most of what would look like a turbo conversion kit.
I am in Kingsport TN, so not close to you, but not exactly on the moon either.
