2000 S40 Starting Problems
Could someone please help me with a problem I am having witha 2000 S40. Here are the symptoms:
- When you turn the key, the car doesn't want to start. After repeated attempts, it will turn over . . . sometimes have to hit the gas pedal to get it to start and the issue seems to be getting worse.
- The fan will sometimes run,if you turn the key to the "on" position, the temp is in the red. After the car finally starts, the temp gauge returns to normal
- The car wants to "rev" when driving down the road. At times, you don't even need to push on the gas. It will also do it when at a complete stop with your foot on the brake. If you turn the car off and start it right back up, it returns to normal. Seems to do this more when the car is cold.
The CEL indicated a cam sensor and temperature sensor. I don't know if either one of these would be causing these problems but don't want to start replacing everything in an attempt at fixing the problem.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated

I'd start by replacing the temp sensor - easy to get at - remove the thermostat cover (two torx screws) and its right there. The connector takes some figuring to get off - kind of comes off the opposite way from what you'd think... I had a wandering temp gauge and replacing the sensor fixed it.
