Default 2001 Volvo S40 1.9T

Hey guys i drive a 2001 Volvo S40 1.9T and i got a couple of Questions:

1. im really thinking of getting some performance out of it. Ive dont a couple of things like a new cold air intake new springs and struts, and everything else is just cosmetic stuff for show. Does anybody have any suggestions on what else i can do. for the past month or so ive been looking into exhaust systems on multiple websites, yet im torn between gettin a whole exhaust system or just replacing the muffler for a better and deeper sound.

2. Im quite lonely down in houston texas i dont know ANYBODY with the same model S40 thats got any work done. Most of the meets i go to are just euro meets with VWs and little to NO volvos. If you live in houstonand there are any volvo meets im eager to go.

Thanks!

Welcome. You could alway upgrade the exhaust system as well, do a custom cat back system. Check some of the sites like IPD to see if there are ECU upgrades. There are others things like a bigger turbo.

i'd say get a strut brace, ecu tune (upsolute.com), cat-back system, and 14t turbo....

i have none of these...but i want em....

Personally just getting a muffler is cheap and RICER like. You wont gain any performance but you will gain sound. But if I was doing it I would do it right and get a full exhaust system. Performance and sound can't beat that.

1. I would suggest doing STAGE ZERO first.

2. You got an intake cool. No need to do that.

3. I would do the exhaust system. Downpipe to catback. mandrel bent 3" downpipe to a 2.5" mandrel bent catback system with a free flowing muffler like BORLA or Magnaflow. That is if you go custom. Look into IPD USA, EuroSportTuning (EST), Viva Performance for other possible exhaust system upgrades.

4. I would do the ECU upgrade last. As this will take into account all the other engine mods you have done. Look into IPD USA, EuroSportTuning, Viva Performance as these three will give you the best tunes on the market for our Volvo's. Or look into the cheaper tunes such as SpeedTuning USA, Upsolute & Inmotion.

If you do a turbo upgrade as stated above do it before the ECU upgrade. So in general any engine mods you do, do them before the ECU upgrade.

ECU Tuning:

Says for 1999 and up turbo models. However it isn't listed under the s40 section for 01. Call and ask.

2. Call and ask EuroSportTuning (EST) if their BSR PPC can be used on your O1 model.

3. Same thing with Viva Performance. Ask if their RICA system will work for the 01 model you have.

hows it goin! Ive got an 04 s40...and have started the tuning process...here's what any s40 enthus will tell ya, and for more info make sure to check out s40concepts.net- get yourself a 14t turbo, you also want a 3in downpipe to 2.5 in catback exhaust with an obx or straight thru muffler, and lastly you will need to have your chip tuned, UPSOLUTE RICA one of those vendors....make sure you have the new turbo and the exhaust installed before having it chipped, and also if you havent done so already make sure you get a boost gauge and manual boost controller...any questions email me-

he said cold air intake but besides custom fabbed ones I'm pretty sure that there arent any true cold air intakes available for the earlier s40s phase 1 & 2s which have the 1.9 in them...but if you're looking for a nice intake, I would recommend the EST ram air intake...performance wise it doesnt do much, but it does have a nice sound to it when your turbo spools that you wont hear with a stock setup....either that or BMC makes a nice setup as well
