Default engine system throttle service pcv

hello all,

Brought my 2006 xc70 turbo 75K to dealer as a "emergency" they called it, engine system service required and check engine light. this message happened 1 day after my local standard service only mechanic changed out a left side low beam bulb requiring moving an air filter something and they also did a synthetic oil charge.

Idle was just barely under 700, I thought it was higher before this occurrence.
Is there a normal rpm at idle?

Dealer said it was the cracked pcv valve and I needed a "throttle service", quoted 6 hrs labor totaling $934 still idles at 700 but feels fine
Is this the going rate? the hours sound quite high

the 2014 S60 loaner was a sweet ride.

thanks

nope thats what i charge for a pcv service. what it consists of is them replacing he pcv box (of course or at least they should) nipple and a couple of hoses. on top of that they clean inside the block and the throttle.

That's high. The breather box only pays 3.5 hours. The intake is off so if they charge more than .5 to clean the throttle, that's too much. You could argue some more time if replacing the hose assembly that goes to the fresh air hose, but 6 hours overall is high.

thanks for your replies ES6T and Damien

Could a cracked pcv valve possibly be the related to a failed left low beam bulb replacement by my local mechanic a day prior?

is the breather box what he had to remove in order to change the failed bulb?

No, there is no PCV valve. The breather box is under the intake.

can a novice look to see if in fact they did change the pcv box?
easy for me to see/find/locate?

wanna laugh, it was in for service of ongoing repair needs today, same warning the same low beam was out for $120.00 . . tech said yeah they do that a lot . . i must have had a dozen maybe more bulb change outs in 8 years

thanks Gents
