'98 V70 R - plug in center console?

Hi. I just bought a 1998 V70 R. There's a plug in the center console. What is it for? It's long and thin--looks like an old-school computer printer plug.

It the early ODB self diagnostic plug in - Volvo had a scan tool that work for 96-98 cars that plugs in there - not sure if normal obd scanners will pick up anything - I use the factory scan tool for those years.
